Jim Edmonds is all set to stay for another two years with Cardinals after agreeing to a two year contract extension. This ensures that Edmonds will play for the Cardinals through the 2008 season.

Edmonds has been with the Cardinals since 2000 after he was acquired from Angels in exchange for Adam Kennedy and Kent Bottenfield. The announcement of the extension came one day before the Club's deadline to decline or exercise the 2007 option on Jim Edmonds.

In a press release, Walt Jocketty, the General Manager for Cardinals, informed that they were extremely happy that Edmonds had decided to stay on with the Cardinals and that Edmonds has played a big part in creating and maintaining a winning attitude ever since he started playing for the Cardinals. The Cardinals are hoping that Edmonds finishes his baseball career with them.

2006 has been a difficult year for Edmonds as he has been battling a shoulder and foot injury along with post-concussion syndrome. He only played 110 games this year which has been his lowest since 1999. This has affected his average across the board which is at its lowest also since 1999.

Edmonds will undergo a minor surgery on his right shoulder which is his non throwing shoulder. His foot injury is expected to get better with rest though is extremely painful. Cardinals are not too worried about his injuries because they are aware of how hard Edmonds works to keep himself in good shape and condition.

Edmonds is expected to retire after this two year contract comes to an end.
